Valentine’s Day Movie Picks

Valentine’s Day is just a few days away (whether you want it to be or not), and if you like us will be cuddling up to your TV and consoles, here are our top movie picks to watch on Sunday.
Up
One of Pixar’s greatest love stories, Up has heaps of the Pixar charm that we all know and love. Retired balloon salesman Carl and Ellie were childhood sweethearts, and in keeping with his promise to Ellie of an adventure, widowed Carl and little Russell transport the house he had shared with his wife, in seeking of the famed Paradise Falls – where Ellie and Carl had dreamed of exploring together. A real tear-jerker, it gets us every. Time.
The Empire Strikes Back
How could we not include Han and Leia’s love story from the world of Star Wars? In the battle to save the galaxy from the evil Darth Vader presses on, and whilst working on the Millennium Falcon, Han and Leia share their very first kiss.
Of course Threepio interrupts and throws the moment off, but this scene marks the moment they go on to becoming the best couple in the galaxy. N’awwww.
Deadpool
Part ultra-violent, part comedy, Deadpool’s quick wit of an unrestrained and lustful teen imagination is a whole lot of fun. While Deadpool might seem like the antithesis of Valentine's, the Deadpool marketing team unleased this classic over Valentine’s Day in 2016, and the publicity was repeatedly praised. Wade and Vanessa Carlyse’s relationship might seem unconventional, but the film is most definitely a love story. A fourth-wall breaking masterpiece if you ask us. Just not one for kids.
Guardians of the Galaxy
What’s not to love about this movie? An action-packed, epic space adventure with an amazing soundtrack, a great storyline, and even better characters with great chemistry. Guardians of the Galaxy is a feel-good movie as its finest – funny with a whole lot of heart. OK, we might just be a little biased when it comes to Groot.
Black Panther
T’Challa and Naika’s relationship is brilliantly subtle through the Black Panther movie. The storyline explores how two people who love each other and can reach a point where their dreams and responsibilities are compatible. Throughout, we witness the respect they have for one another, as it is Naika who convinces T’Challa to change Wakanda’s historic policy of remaining uninvolved from the rest of the world –
showcasing just how much T’Challa respects his right-hand woman.
