A mere 20 years since the final film in the original trilogy released, news has emerged that more The Lord of the Rings films are on the way, with Peter Jackson potentially at the helm once again, which could mean great, new things for the franchise.
Having already worked on not only The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-03), but The Hobbit (2012-14) too, bringing Peter Jackson back into any LOTR project feels like a no brainer. Speaking in a statement, Jackson, and his partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, shared that, “Warner Bros. and Embracer have kept us in the loop every step of the way. We look forward to speaking with them further to hear their vision for the franchise moving forward," making this an exciting time for the overarching LOTR stories overall.
Though it has been a while since we've experienced the Jackson, Walsh, and Boyens treatment on the franchise, it'll be interesting to find out how and if these new films would fit into both the first two trilogies, but also the spin-offs that have been release since. Thinking about Amazon Prime's The Rings of Power series, which received a mixed reception from fans, alongside the upcoming anime feature New Line has been working on, titled The War of the Rohirrim, set to screen in 2024, it'll be interesting to see how everything fits together, or even if it will.
